Five For Friday
Hey lovers! Hope you’re all having a fantastic Friday!
I am doing my best to pretend like it hasn’t dropped 30 degrees this week.
Five Things to Cook/Bake/Mix/Make
Strawberry Rhubarb Frozen Yogurt – from Eat, Spin, Run, Repeat! I love strawberry rhubarb pie, so it stands to reason that I would also enjoy it in frozen yogurt form. I’m pretty sure I could make this in my ice cream maker too! But if you don’t have one, no worries because the recipe doesn’t actually call for one.
Strawberry Banana Cream Baked Oatmeal Squares – from How Sweet It Is…are strawberries even good right now? The ones I’ve had have been terrible, but these photos make me want to drop everything and make these oatmeal bars. Because its breakfast and eating breakfast is healthy. Duh.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cups - another one from How Sweet…I can’t get enough of her recipes! I want to crawl through my computer screen and eat every single one of these things. And because I’m crazy, I might just put a little sprinkle of sea salt on top of each one.
Savory Spinach Bites courtesy of the Curvy Carrot. I just discovered this blog and I love it! The recipes look so tasty and I feel like I have a lot in common with Shannon, right down to our philosophies on food and blogging. I will definitely be making some of her recipes soon!
Unstuffed Cabbage courtesy of, well, me! Do I sound like a broken record yet? I really think you will like this, even if you think you hate cabbage. Seriously!! I really want someone to try this and tell me if they like it or not…it doesn’t even taste cabbagey…it just tastes like a hot bowl of all things yummy.
Five Things to Read…
Apparently Starbucks is now using cochineal extract to create the red flavoring in its strawberry frappucinos. So instead of using um, strawberries, to make your drink red, they are using crushed up dried insects. Yummy. And while we’re on that topic…
Fortunately I don’t tend to eat any of the items on this list, but this is yet another example of why we need to educate ourselves AND read our food labels! I’m allergic to mushrooms so I never eat them, but I was appalled to read that the FDA legally allows 19 maggots and 74 mites in every 3.5 ounce can of mushrooms! SICK. If you do eat mushrooms, stick with fresh and avoid the maggot situation altogether.
I woke up an hour early this morning and ran 5 glorious miles…and it’s all because I followed some of the tips on this list! I find laying everything out the night before (I even lay out a full water bottle and my inhaler) to be especially helpful. This morning I was extra motivated to get up because I kept thinking of all the pizza and cake I ate at my shower yesterday!
All I’m gonna say is this is a very cute, very nerdy metaphor for working out, and I kind of loved it.
This list is a great reminder. I find that different techniques apply better to different situations. For example, sometimes all I have to do is look at all I have to be thankful for, and my negative attitude melts away. Other times, when I’m dealing with a particularly difficult situation, I find that staying balanced and controlling what I can (such as diet, exercise, and spending time in prayer) helps me be more positive. How do you stay optimistic?
Have a great weekend my friends!
